225KV OMVG Senegal–The Gambia–Guinea Bissau–Guinea Interconnection Project

Description
The project envisages the construction of a 225 kV double circuit high voltage transmission line loop of approximate length 1,677 km, with associated substations, that shall emanate and terminate in Kaolack (Senegal) through Soma (The Gambia), Mansoa (Guinea Bissau), Linsan (Guinea) and Tambacounda (Senegal) among other locations.

To interconnect the networks of Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea Bissau and Guinea for exchange of power among these countries and beyond
Project Status
This project is in its implementation phase and financing of US$722 million equivalent has been completely secured following adoption of pre-investment studies that were funded by AfDB, NEPAD-IPPF, FAPA, EU-A ITF and the OMVG Member States. USAID’s Power Africa provided support on the finalization of the commercial framework for the project. The entire project is being implemented by a single Project Management Unit with the support of an Owners’ Engineer. The construction works are well advanced and parts of the line have already been energized. The commissioning of the project is envisaged to be completed in 2022.
