330 kV Aboadze - Prestea - Kumasi - Bolgatanga Transmission Line Project in Ghana

Description
The project involved the construction of a 330 kV transmission line of approximate length 780 km, with associated substations, from Aboadze in the West Coast Region to Bolgatanga in the Upper Region of Ghana through Prestea, Kumasi and Kintampo.
Objective
To reinforce the transmission system in Ghana to enable power export into the ECOWAS landlocked countries and beyond.
Project Status
Pre-investment studies that were funded by WB and AFD were completed. The project is being implemented in four segments – Aboadze – Prestea, Prestea – Kumasi, Kumasi – Kintampo, Kintampo – Bolgatanga. The Aboadze – Prestea that was financed in collaboration with Armandi Energy Solutions as well as the Prestea – Kumasi segment that was financed in collaboration with Korea Exim Bank through KEPCO. The AFD is supporting the Kumasi – Kintampo and the Kintampo - Bolgatanga portions of the project and already the Kintampo - Bolgatanga segment has been completed. The remaining Kumasi – Kintampo segment is expected to be completed in Quarter 4 of 2021.
